Application Procedures
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Applications must be made on the prescribed BCV MTh or ThD form (return to Postgraduate Research home page for forms.) This should be accompanied by certified transcripts from previous theological degrees; the required academic and ministry references; a typed statement of not more than one page, describing the research the student wishes to carry out, including a list of 12-15 major biographic titles. Students external to BCV should provide access to former BTh/BMin Hons, MTh theses or MA/MMin projects. These should be in the theological discipline in which the student wishes to undertake higher research.
The student should also make an appointment to talk face-to-face with the BCV Post Graduate Research Co ordinaor through his assistant. Overseas students should organise a conversation with this Post Graduate Research Co ordinator.
Once he gives approval the candidature of the potential student is ratified at a meeting of the BCV Post Graduate Board of Studies. After taking on board any advice regarding the scope or feasibility of the desired project, the topic should be fleshed out further in the form of a 2000 word essay which will be sent along with the ACT application for the appropriate course which is also available on the BCV website or the assistant to the co ordinator. THis should be returned to BCV who will sponsor the application of the candidate at the appropriate ACT Post Graduate Awards Board, which meets at least three to four times per year.
English Language Requirements
Except for those candidates who have a tertiary qualification taught in English, international candidates whose first language is not English will be required to sit an IELTS test. For candidates wishing to enroll in the MTh, a score of at least 7.0 in reading and writing, 6.5 in listening and 6.0 in speaking is required. Approved institutions may also require a test of other individual candidates.
Overseas Students
BCV welcomes applications from overseas candidates for entry into its Postgraduate Research program. Their attention is drawn to the following matters: (i) Assessment of Previous Awards. Candidates should forward to BCV a certified copy of the transcript of previous theological degrees. As well, a certified statement of the accreditation status of the candidate’s previous seminary should accompany the application. (ii) Visas and Government Regulations. Candidates are responsible for all matters relating to student visas and other government regulations, when applying for entry into Australia to study at BCV. (iii) Cost of living in Australia: Candidates should consider carefully the full financial implications of study in Australia. A statement of estimated living costs is available upon request.
Processing of Applications
The Postgraduate Studies Committee of BCV normally meets four times a year, when applications for admission to the MTh and ThD programs may be considered. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that his/her application form, all necessary documentation and references are received by the Postgraduate Research Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which the application is to be considered.
Dates of these meetings in 2006 are: March 29; May 10; August 16; October 4. Applicants will notified as soon as possible concerning the decision of the Committee.
Students wishing to live on campus
If you wish to live on campus, you (and your spouse, if married) are required to complete a student application form, a medical report form, and provide names of three referees.
