Mission Aviation Course

The Mission Aviation Course is conducted by Bible College of Victoria in partnership with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT)/JAARS (the aviation/technical arm of WBT).

The Diploma of Mission Aviation prepares men and women to minister effectively in the field of mission aviation. It is founded on a Biblical, theological, ministry skills core, and is structured to allow students to develop their skills in the areas of Mission Aviation Flight and Mission Aviation Engineering. Within these two fields, it is expected that graduates from the Flight and Aircraft Engineering Streams will be equipped to minster effectively as Commercial Pilots and/or Licensed Aircraft Engineers within a mission aviation context.

The Mission Aviation Course is structured in two separate streams:

  1. The Flight Training Stream, for those seeking to be trained as mission pilots. Students in this stream may undertake a two-year Diploma of Mission Aviation (Flight), or, for those who have already completed some of their flight training, the accelerated three- semester course of the the two-semester Certificate in Mission Aviation.
  2.  The Aircraft Engineering Stream, which is a three-year program leading to the Diploma of Mission Aviation (Engineering) and the Certificate IV in Aeroskills. This stream is specifically designed to prepare men and women as qualified aircraft engineers in mission aviation. A combined Flight/Engineering program may also be undertaken.

Students in both streams take ministry subjects available as part of the Certificate IV in Ministries program. (Click here for subject summaries). Full details are available in the Mission Aviation Course Information Manual. The courses are conducted by BCV in association with JAARS / Wycliffe Bible Translators and Mission Aviation Fellowship, and are accredited by the Victorian Qualifications Authority. Austudy, Abstudy and AusAid are available for eligible full-time students.

The courses have been endorsed by the major Australian operators of mission aircraft, and are undertaken by a large number of international students.
