News
Rita and Walter Lawrence (1951)
Walter was active in Beach Missions and ESP camps. He also went to Mogumber-Methodist Mission in WA with Arthur Barton in 1955 for about 8 months on a building project and similar in 1956 at UAM Mission Station in Bourke NSW. He also helped with the new ESA building at Belgrave Heights. He married in 1959 and has been active in the local Presbyterian Church. He was inducted as an elder in 1964.
Rita’s first five years after graduation were spend in her home church (Clear Lake) also doing RE and taking part in ESA camps. In 1957 she was accepted as a staff-worker with ESA and worked with Myrtle Payne for two years, then married. They spent a few months caretaking at Belgrave Heights Convention Centre before settling in Woori Yallock. They now serve the Lord there through the local church. Walter is a volunteer driver for the LINC organisation, travelling up to 1000km some months taking folk to medical appointments.
Russell and Enid Gray (1958-60) were part of the first group to do the L.Th course under Rev John Searle. Since then they have spent many years with the OMF Mission in S.E.Asia.
Rob and June Head (1958- 60) were students at MBI 1958-60, graduating with diplomas in 1959, then went on to complete LTh studies in 1960. They met and married afterwards. In 1962 they applied separately to WBT/SIL, were both accepted, then engaged in March, married in June, set off for PNG end of July, and were there ever since, until finally saying sad farewells and returning to live in Ferntree Gully, Victoria in 2008.
Don Archbold (MBI 1957) emailed BCV recently, saying he would like to know how some of his fellow
students are going now. Don writes:
My role in the local church is in 'Prayer' and as an 'Encourager' in the fellowship I attend. Some of the Elders have told me this, so it is not my own idea, or making up.I have sought the Lord's confirmation of this by praying that He would "stir up the gift that is within me". This extends to prayer for some former students at MBI, OMF Missionaries (even I don't know them personally), The Persecuted Church (through 'The Barnabas Fund'), 'Back To Jerusalem' ministry, which is working from China, and back to Jerusalem - via the Silk Road.
I am 71 this month. I still get about OK (mostly locally, and between Brisbane and the Gold Coast on occasions), and am my wife Shirley's 'carer' . We have been happily married for 45 years. Life with the Lord is still so wonderful. It gets better every day. I keep memorizing much of the Word of God. God Is Good (So Good). Greetings. (August 06)
