People and Places

Max and Verna Chapman (1963), In 1976 accepted as candidates with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Since retiring from the full time work in Papua New Guinea in 1999, they have been very pleased to offer themselves for relief pilot duties.  This has taken Max to Ache, Northern Australia and recently to East Timor. Filling gaps in the staffing commitment to the communities and discovering great opportunities to serve God's hurting creation (Aug 2009).

Rob and June Head (1960) were students at MBI 1958-60, graduating with diplomas in 1959, then went on to complete LTh studies in 1960. They met and married afterwards. In 1962 they applied separately to WBT/SIL, were both accepted, then engaged in March, married in June, set off for PNG end of July, and served there until March 2008, when they returned to live in Ferntree Gully, Victoria.

Grahame (MBI 1963) and Elizabeth Martin will spend July in PNG. Grahame, who heads up Train to Teach, recently finished typing a translation of the book of Acts in the Arufe language, which he will check with the local church translation committee. He will also take his recently -completed book on God’s planting of a church at Arufe to read through with the community. Elizabeth and a friend, Ros Atkinson, will be in PNG with him for two weeks to hold discipleship groups for women in the Suki villages. Grahame will then spend two weeks working with an agricultural consultant to help the locals rejuvenate infertile garden land.

With the Lord

Jack Measham (MBI 1969) died 13th August 2007, after battling leukemia for 12 months. His post-MBI years were spent as a Baptist minister in Regent, Morwell, Geelong, Lara, Teesdale, Dandenong and Eltham.

Kenneth Horder (MBI 1959-1960) died 29 June 2007. Kenneth and his wife, Janice, served with SIL in New Guinea.

Lynette Goeby (nee Porter) died on June 21, 2006. Mrs Goeby attended MBI in 1968 – 1970 with her identical triplet sisters, Robyn and Janese.

Robert Matley died on Tuesday, 19 September, 2006. Robert and his wife, Joan, were students at MBI from 1960-63. The funeral was held on 27 September at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Huskisson, NSW.
